A First Day of Fun

Hello again! Last time I wrote, I mentioned that my new kitten, November, was very sweet and innocent, but hadn't had time to get into mischief. Well, it seems one day can change all of that.

While doing some initial research on kitten care, I discovered that cats should be free-fed. That means, put food down and let them have at it all day long. They're smart, and will stop eating when they're not hungry anymore. So yesterday and last night I set food out in the kitchen. This morning, as was expected, it was all gone and I had to open another can.

Here's where the fun comes in. Yesterday, Nova stayed in the living room while I used the electric can opener. She was still exploring her surroundings, getting used to her new home. My roommate had to keep track of her. If no one was watching, she would slip under the recliner and get stuck. But today the baby was more familiar with our apartment, and followed me into the kitchen when I went to make breakfast. I grabbed a can of cat food, plugged in the can opener, set it and started it before moving over to the fridge for my own meal. I looked away to grab the milk, and when I stood up again, Novi had found her way onto the counter and was pouncing at the whirring machine.

I don't know how she managed to climb on top of the counter so quickly. But she was determined to stop the whirring sound. When the opener clicked at the end of it's cycle, she put her little white paws up on the rim of the can and started biting at the loose lid. Scared that she would cut herself, I quickly set her on the floor and fed her.

The fun didn't stop there though. This afternoon, I had just gotten back from shopping and set my paper bag on the floor like I always do. I'd heard stories about cats and paper bags, but didn't think they actually happened on a regular basis. Low and behold, soon as all the groceries were out, in crawled the cat. I must have spent ten full minutes just staring as she poked her head in and out scrambled around, and finally flipped the bag upright. She started crying in that adorable baby-kitten voice and I just started laughing. My roommate walked in thinking I was going mad.

So, I hope you enjoyed hearing about these two little moments. I had a great day today, November is so cute, and I can tell she's going to be a bundle of fun. So I'll keep you posted. Hopefully next time there's even more to say!
